1Visa and Residence Permit

After receiving visa application documents, international students can apply for a study visa (X1 or X2 visa) at Chinese embassy and consulate abroad. International students studying in China must hold ordinary passports with X1 or X2 visa. The overseas personnel who is holding the X1 visa should apply for Residence Permit within 30 days upon the entrance into China. Stayingin China with an expired visa is illegal.

For students with X2 visa, if the validity period can cover the period of students’ stay in China, they do not need to apply for residence permit; if not, students shall apply for residence permit before it expires. Late applicants or the ones who won’t leave China before the validity period will commit illegal stay.The validity period of X2 visa is indicated on the visa page.

2Application for Extension of Visa and Residence Permit

International students should pay attention to the validity of their residence permits and entry visas. Staying in China with an expired visa or residence permit is a violation of law, and will be penalized.

To extend the visa or residence permit, studentsshouldgo toCOEtoapply at least15 days in advance of the expiration date.If an international student holds a visa or residence permit whose expiration date isduring summer/winter holidays, he/sheshouldgo toCOEtoapply for extension at least30 daysbefore the vacation starts.

To apply for extension of residence permit validity, the required documents are as follows:

1)the application form for visa;

2)the Visa Application Notice issued by COE;

3)the organization code certificate of YZU (only offered for the first-time extension of residence permit);

4)the copy of physical examination report (required for the ones who extend for the first time with X1 type visa or X2 type visa to enter China, not required for the ones who extend the residence permit);

5)the copy of Admission Notice of YZU and the copy of Visa Application for Study in China(JW201 or JW202 Form);

6)front page, the visa page and the one with the entry stamp of the passport;

7)the valid passport;

8)one recent 2-inch photo of the applicant(front, bareheaded, with a white background);

9) the copy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence(required for the ones who live off campus);

10) payment Certificate (this certificate is needed for verification before COE issues visa-related materials).

For the first time of extension, item 1-5 can be got from COE while item 6-10 should be prepared by the student himself. Starting from the second time, COE only issues item 1-2 and students should make copies of the rest materials and keep them.
