From June 18 to 26, 2018, led by Ms. Li Xiaoyan, Dean of Confucius Classroom of Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre in South Africa, a delegation of 2018 Chinese Bridge for South African Schools consisting of 15 officials and principals from Gauteng Province, South Africa paid a visit to China.

　　During the stay in China, the delegation made successful a visit to Shanghai, Yangzhou and Beijing. In Shanghai, they visited Chin Woo Athletic Federation and watched a martial arts show there. In Yangzhou, the delegation visited College of Educational Sciences at Yangzhou University, Yangzhou Sanyuanqiao Primary School, Yangzhou Gongdao School, Yangzhou High School of Jiangsu Province and No.2 Kindergarten Affiliated to Yangzhou University. The two sides held an in-depth exchange of views on features and challenges, status quo and future prospects in education through a series of seminars, as well as gained a comparatively comprehensive understanding of education and management in local schools at all levels through classroom observation and interactions. The delegation also visited Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban in Beijing and exchanged ideas on a real and fruitful future cooperation between the two sides.

　　This event, organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and implemented by Yangzhou University, is expected to help South African officials and principles know about reforms and development of Chinese basic education in the new era and create platforms for future exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. In addition, the cultural tour enables them to appreciate outstanding Chinese traditional culture with a view to promoting the sustainable development of Chinese language teaching worldwide.
