Lecture on Double Ninth Festival

The Double Ninth Festival is one of the most important Chinese traditional festivals. People usually express their best wishes to the elderly on this festival. College for Overseas Education held a lecture on the topic of Double Ninth Festival on the 22nd of October.

The teacher kicked off the lecture by introducing the origin of Double Ninth Festival, as well as its customs and historical significance. After “warm up”, the students were shown a well-known poem named Thinking of my Brothers on Mountain Climbing Day written by the Chinese poet Wang Wei and enjoyed it greatly. Then the teacher expounded on the modern meaning of the Double Ninth Festival, i.e., showing filial respect for the elderly which constitutes one of the traditional virtues in China.

Near the end of the class, the students wrote their best wishes to their grandparents and family members on the cards.

Through this lecture, the international students not only understood the customs of the Double Ninth Festival, but also got a chance to express their feelings for their loved ones. Last but not least, the international students came to appreciate the way how Chinese people cherish their family harmony as well as healthy life.
