Yangzhou University was founded in 1902. Next year will be its 120^th anniversary. In the past 119 years, despite peaks and troughs, all the YZU family, from generation to generation, have been carrying forward the school motto since foundation “ jian ku zi li”, in English “ being perseverant and self-reliant”. We stay true to that original aspiration, remain assiduous and pragmatic, work with firm determination, and strive for excellence. Inspired by the spirit of school motto, all the university’s undertakings have made rapid progress. Our overall ability has risen continuously, and YZU has developed into a school with a hundred-year long tradition as a prestigious school of reform, a school of large scope and of high quality.

Throughout the passage of time from beginning until now, this spirit has been passed down from generation to generation. I believe that in Yangzhou University you can carry on the school motto spirit.
