As part of Yangzhou University 120th anniversary celebration events, a volleyball match between Chinese and International students was successfully carried out jointly by College for Overseas Education and College of Physical Education on April 29th in Yangzijin campus. Professor Chen Guohong, Vice President of Yangzhou University, Professor Yao Xiaoqun, Administrative Dean of College for Overseas Education, Professor Xu Yu, Deputy Administrative Dean of College of Physical Education watched the competition altogether with more than 100 students.

Two teams presented intensive rallies during the game. The players’ outstanding performance won cheers and support from the spectators. After the event, two teams exchanged their game experience with each other, which fully manifested the sportsmanship of “friendship first, competition second”.

Sports, as international language and a universal way of expression, transcends language barriers and cultural differences, respects the concepts of justice, equality, competition and health, and advocates perseverance in sports. “We appreciate the opportunity that YZU has brought to us”, said Osei, an undergraduate player majoring in international business from Ghana, “the competition has no doubt enhanced the friendship between Chinese and international students and eased the pressure brought by the epidemic. Sweat is always the best way to relieve stress.”

Chen Tiantian, a Chinese student player from College of Physical Education, said that this match benefits students in alleviating the pressure during the campus lock-down management, strengthens the ties among students from different cultures and displays their vigorous youth.

With 120th Anniversary approaching, this activity enriched the connection between Chinese and international students. With their sweat and endeavor, the students showed their uplifting spirit and offer an exquisitely gift to YZU’s grand birthday.
